One of the many uses for the GearDeck™ 17 enclosed telescoping cargo carrier is to transport generators. The capsule’s interior dimensions of 46”L x 24”W x 26”H are an excellent fit for most portable generators up to 5,000 watts. The ground level access with raised hinged lid lends itself to work and utility related uses. The dual tube design of the carrier’s TwinTube™ platform and integrated Silent Hitch Pins™ provides exceptional strength and stability for heavy-duty applications, and in conditions where there’s greater vibration such as on the back of towable RVs.

The popularity of the GearDeck™ 17 for generator transport is driven by a real need for it. A compelling example is with the travel trailer and fifth wheel towable RVs. With few models offering built-in generators, the towable RV owner must look to an auxiliary means for storage.

This became apparent to Dave Long during his recent purchase of the Milan Travel Trailer. Learn first hand about his experiences from research to acquisition of the GearDeck™ 17. We thank Dave for sharing his insights in this self-produced video.

GearSpace 34 solves lacking storage space in small RVs

RVers love their Class B van campers for good reason. They get the best gas mileage and are relatively easy to get around in cities and areas with limited parking. However, when it comes to cargo capacity, there’s very little of it. Even worse, extended travels and active lifestyles necessitate more stuff.

We hear of the limited capacity challenges from every customer – and then some. In fact, it turns out that a common storage location in small RVs is the shower and the bed. Golf clubs in the shower and bikes on the bed, to be more exact.

So when Kris and Bucky came looking, they already knew that the GearSpace 34 was just the right the answer. This is our most popular enclosed carrier among RVers for obvious reason. The huge 34 cubic feet of enclosed capacity is by far the largest on the market and meets real life capacity needs.

Kris reclaims her RV after rearranging gear

Driving a beautiful 2010 Roadtrek SS RV and with gear of two mountain bikes and other common travel items, Kris and Bucky rearranged their interior on the spot. Using the Bicycle Mounting Hardware Kits (optional) to organize in secured, upright position inside the carrier, we ensured proper fit of their mountain bikes with handle bars having 27.5 inch width.

On this Roadtrek SS model, both rear doors have ample room to clear the cargo carrier for access to cargo bay with up to 14” of telescoped clearance (from hitch pin hole to carrier).

This compact trailer fits five adult bikes and lots more gear

The GearWagon™ AT was conceived with the capacity for five bicycles specifically in mind. Why bicycles? Their size overall made for a great dimensional benchmark and value proposition. Real capacity (86 cubic feet) and a shape that lends itself to a wide range of cargo (6’6L x 4’8″W x 44″H curved capsule) was first and foremost.

Not to mention, the market analysis. There was simply nothing made of this size that met other critically important criteria: lightweight (275 lbs), enclosed and secure, user and passenger vehicle friendly, and with performance driven features (aerodynamic, torsion suspension, large tires).

Funny how we never really get away from our roots. Our reference to five bicycles is one of the most resonating features that reportedly have stuck in viewer minds (so has the trailer mascot, the turtle named Herman®). We also hear of customers ultimately finding us after searching for years for a “bicycle trailer”. One such customer finally succeeded while googling in an overseas airport!

We hope this article will prove helpful in finding us by the many folks seeking the GearWagon™ AT cargo management solution for all kinds of gear, including bicycles.

GearWagon 125 trailer carries gear to Lake Antero; camp by the shore with the GearWagon 125 camper.

Our most convenient trailer for both cargo and camping is the GearWagon 125 Cargo and Camper Trailer. The nearly full-size pick up bed (7’9″L x 56″W x 52″H capsule) with large truck topper style tonneau cover provides over 125 cubic feet of enclosed capacity. The hard shell trailer is water-tight and lock down secure. With so much room, the headaches of packing readily go away.

Some GearWagon 125 Camper owners even opt to travel with their bedding set in place. The camper’s Decking panels can remain installed for travel rather than stored vertically along the trailer’s sidewalls. The tent and vestibule can be left almost completely set up during travel. Simply pop the lid, wrap the tent around the trailer’s base (underneath base lip), insert two poles into the vestibule, and you’re set.

As with all our lightweight trailers, the GearWagon can be towed with any car, big and small. At only 480 to 550 lbs (trailer and camper trailer), there’s no need to own a large truck or SUV. Any vehicle with a hitch will do. That includes small cars like the Prius, Subaru, Jetta, Scion, and the like.

Thanks to the trailer’s lightweight construction, it can be maneuvered both on and off the hitch. On favorable terrain, you can pitch the camper where you like.
